The Cincinnati pop-rock outfit from Ohio gave the scoop on the inspiration behind their hit dance single ‘Shut Up and Dance’ from their sophomore album Talking Is Hard.

“‘Shut Up and Dance’ is based on a true story,” Singer Nicholas Petricca explains. “While we were out in L.A. actually writing for the new record, Talking Is Hard, we hit a roadblock writing the song that would become ‘Shut Up and Dance’; we didn’t have the chorus. We went out to blow off some steam at this awesome dance club and there was a girl there with a backless dress and beat up red Chucks who actually told me to shut up and dance with her.”

In addition to finding song-writing brilliance from his encounter with the dancing belle in red Chuck Taylors, Petricca also cites his favorite musical bands and artists like The Cars, Rick Springfield and Pat Benatar as sources of inspiration for the track. Shortly after its release, the synthy drum-heavy dance number has totaled 78 million streams worldwide, reached Number 1 on Billboard Alternative Songs chart and secured a spot on Spotify’s viral top 50 US chart for two weeks.

Experience a dance-filled evening with Walk the Moon who will be performing at the SB Bowl for the 11th annual KJEE Summer Round-Up on Sunday, May 17th.
