Outreach welcomes back ‘Kids at the Bowl’ with Ladama! On Tuesday, October 3rd, the Santa Barbara Bowl, in collaboration with the Children’s Creative Project , welcomed the multi-cultural female artist group LADAMA to give a live performance to over 2,500 SB County students!
Ladama delivered an utterly unique experience for the students as they flowed from electric to acoustic, from Spanish to English to Portuguese. Harnessing music from their respective countries of origin, Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela and the United States, the group utilizes instruments from across the Americas with a modern twist to produce Latin Alternative music. Ladama presented culturally significant art forms throughout their 2-hour performance. Students and teachers alike were dancing and singing aloud from their seats!
Afterwards, the four female artists hosted a unique musical workshop for 50 extremely excited Santa Barbara and La Colina junior high students. Each student was given a percussion instrument to experiment with and learn rhythm, beats and timing. The band members took turns educating the students on drums, percussion, maracas, singing, and rhythm. By the end of the workshop, the students harmonized together!
Kids at the Bowl is an essential Santa Barbara Bowl Outreach initiative hosting large-scale cultural performances for Santa Barbara County students. Benefits extend far beyond the performance, they educate students on how to be a part of an audience, provide a cultural experience at a historic community venue, and create an opportunity to imagine careers in the arts.
The Santa Barbara Bowl deeply values the performing arts and is dedicated to ensuring all students have access to arts education. The Bowl’s Outreach program directly invests in youth performing arts opportunities throughout Santa Barbara County.
