SANTA BARBARA BOWL
Just inside the Bowl’s grounds, concert-goers enter the Bowl’s lobby: a natural outdoor wooded glen. A new gate, designed in the spirit of the original 1930’s architecture, will be installed at the entrance to this lush area densely planted with specimen oaks and native plants. The walk through the Glen to the amphitheatre will be upgraded and beautified to match the excellence of the attractions on the Bowl’s stage.The Glen’s preliminary plans are drafted and the Bowl’s Facility Committee is working closely with Susan Van Atta of Van Atta Associates, local landscape architects, to create a special space true to the Santa Barbara environment with all indigenous plants and trees. The main walkway through the Glen will lay under a canopy of mature oak. This natural setting provides a sense of tranquility and shelter to the site. Additional native plantings will emphasize the beauty of the canyon and create a dramatic and magical journey to the concert amphitheatre. Other elements will include history of the Bowl’s site incorporating plant species used by the Chumash as well as sandstone used around the Bowl since 1936.
