Santa Barbara Bowl Foundation awards over $160,000 to Santa Barbara County performing arts programs in 2013.

Santa Barbara, California – The Santa Barbara Bowl Foundation Board of Directors is pleased to announce the 2013 Education Outreach grant recipients. The Board voted to approve grants based on recommendations from the Education Outreach Committee, who evaluated applications from local schools, artists and not-for-profit organizations. Funded by generous private donations as well as a Foundation contribution of $1 from every Santa Barbara Bowl ticket sold, Education Outreach awarded over $160,000 in grants in 2013.

The Santa Barbara Bowl Foundation believes that arts education and experiences are essential and beneficial to everyone. As an important element of it’s core mission, the Bowl’s Education Outreach program provides resources and builds partnerships that enhance performing arts exposure and education in the Santa Barbara community.

Education Outreach grants in 2013 provided many schools funding for residencies and performances in music, dance and theater from high-impact organizations like Cameron Tummel Rhythm Instruction, Michael Katz Storytelling, Boxtales Theatre Group, Santa Barbara Dance Institute and Girls Rock. Support for after-school programs was another essential focus, with funds going to organizations like Music! and Notes for Notes.

Sandy Stahl, a Co-Chair of the Education Outreach Committee, commented on the importance of community input in the process of awarding grants: “Through our continued feedback and research with community programs, we have learned that providing resources to both in-school and after-school programs gives the best chance to enhance a child’s education and experiences with the arts. We are delighted to support so many great Santa Barbara organizations.”

For the past twenty years, the Santa Barbara Bowl has been engaged in the American Classic Capital Campaign, which raised funds for the purpose of renovating the Bowl into the world-class facility it is today. With the success of those fundraising efforts, more time, energy and focus can be directed towards Education Outreach.

“It is with great gratitude and excitement that we announce this expanded support for local arts education,” said Graham Farrar, also a Co-Chair of the Education Outreach Committee. “Without the overwhelming contributions of local individuals, businesses, and other organizations, we wouldn’t be able to support arts education as a priority for our community.”

Other programs that received grant funding include Dos Pueblos High School Band Boosters, San Marcos High School Band Boosters, Everybody Dance Now, Notes for Notes and Santa Barbara Children’s Chorus.
