    COMMUNITY

Watch and listen as musicians young and old, beginning and accomplished bring music to State Street.

Pianos on State is a collaborative musical experiment coinciding with the 2010 New Noise Music Festival and Conference. Pianos will be placed at the Arlington Theatre, The Granada Theatre, Santa Barbara Museum of Art, MTD Transit Station, Paseo Nuevo and the India House Bazaar from November 4th – 7th. Pianos will be available for musical exploration, impromptu expression and planned performances morning, afternoon and evening during the weekend (approximately 8am – 8pm per piano). Amateur and professional musicians alike will be scheduled to perform and the public is invited to sit down and play during non-scheduled hours.

Pianos on State is a collaboration project between multiple not-for-profit organizations including Notes for Notes, New Noise, Education at the Granada, the Santa Barbara Bowl’s Education Outreach and the Santa Barbara County Arts Commission.

Pianos on State will initiate awareness for the 2nd Annual Instrument 4 SB Youth (www.instruments4sbyouth.org) taking place on December 31st at the Granada Theatre for the Santa Barbara “Symphony’s New Year’s Eve on the Red Carpet” event. Collecting instruments and musical equipment for disbursement through the school district and other arts non-profit organizations like Notes for Notes, last year’s instrument drive raised over $15,000 worth of equipment and instruments. All six pianos from Pianos on State will be donated to local non-profit organizations and schools.
