On April 7th Jimmy Buffett gave a free performance on the steps of the Old Capital in Tallahassee in support of the Everglades Coalition’s third annual Action Day. Buffett is one of the many who are fighting against Florida policy-makers on the decision to use Amendment 1 money to fund state agencies instead of using it to help protect and restore the environment.
In 2014, 75% of Florida voters approved Amendment 1 to help conserve Florida’s water and land. The Everglades Coalition wants the money to be used to purchase 46,800 acres of land for restoration projects, and if the purchase is not made by the end of October, Florida will lose the chance to buy the land.
Buffet is looking to “change the attitudes” of lawmakers, and persuade them to consider reevaluating the decision on how to allocate funds, and ultimately purchase the land. While the decision currently remains unchanged, activist like Jimmy Buffett continue to help protect the environment and provide their support to organizations such as the Everglades Coalition.
Jimmy Buffett is coming to the SB Bowl on October 15. Come out and support him so that he can continue to support important causes! Purchase tickets here!
