Congressman Salud Carbajal will  host a live  press conference today  at the Santa Barbara Bowl to discuss support for local venues.

Today, April 8th, Rep. Carbajal is visiting the Santa Barbara Bowl to speak with Executive Director,  Rick Boller and Bowl Board Chair, Tobe Plough to  hear about the Bowl’s operations amid the pandemic and share information about programs available to assist struggling venues. The press conference coincides with the first day the Shuttered Venue Operators Grant program will begin accepting applicants.

The Santa Barbara Bowl has created economic, cultural, and social change throughout Santa Barbara county, but has been unable to generate needed income since March 2020.

The Small Venue Operators Grant (SVOG) program was established through the bipartisan COVID-19 relief package passed in December 2020. As a member of the Problem Solvers Caucus, Rep. Carbajal was part of the bipartisan coalition of lawmakers who crafted the bipartisan  framework the relief package was built on. Rep. Carbajal helped secure additional funding for the SVOG program through the American Rescue Plan, to total over $16 billion in grants for shuttered venues in order to keep businesses afloat and workers on payroll.
