Indie rock band alt-J has been successful in transitioning from quietly making music in a college dorm room to topping music charts and performing worldwide. As a self-described group of “oddballs,” the members of alt-J are still in shock by the magnitude of their success. The band finds their music to be different than that of most popular music, and so was in disbelief when they won the Mercury Prize Album of the Year in 2012 and quickly grew.
While fame has proved to be exciting and full of novel adventures, the members of alt-J don’t want to lose their music focus or identities in the rush. So, they look for inspiration in the free-sprit of Miley Cyrus, who alt-J finds to constantly push her boundaries. Cyrus’s vocals were featured in their song “Hunger of the Pine,” and the band agrees they would be thrilled to work with her again. It is important for the members of alt-J to remember to sometimes slow down and take moments to remember their individual dreams and goals.
Make sure to check out alt-J at the SB Bowl on April 14th, grab tickets here.
