The Santa Barbara Bowl Education Outreach committee is pleased to announce that we will be funding a residency of Kid Pan Alley at Peabody Charter School starting April 16, 2007.The Bowl’s Education Outreach Program introduces a new artist-in-residence program being presented for local students the week of April 16th at Peabody Charter School – Kid Pan Alley.Kid Pan Alley started in Rappahannock County, Virginia, with songwriter Paul Reisler’s discovery — kids make the best co-writers — especially when writing songs for kids. Kid Pan Alley uses the songwriting process as a way of inspiring children and promoting self-awareness and self-confidence by attaching value to the students’ creative impulses. Children’s experiences in the creative process show them that they can be creators of music and not just consumers. This unique program promotes community awareness of the arts as essential elements of instruction in the lives of children, and fosters collaboration between students, teachers, administrators, artists, and the community through working together in a creative process.Songs are generally written in one or two class periods. Paul Reisler guides the students through the songwriting process, from the creation of an original idea to the finished song in a fun-filled way that honors the children’s input. Always the songs have a twist that can only come from the unrestrained imagination of a child. To view an article from NPR on Kid Pan Alleyclick here.
