Investing in future artists and audiences.
On September 9, Kingdom Choir, the award-winning gospel group from London, gave a musical lesson for 2,500 students from across Santa Barbara County some of whom travelled all the way from Santa Maria. Check out more photos!
The Santa Barbara Bowl Foundation is a respected funder and partner in performing arts education for the greater Santa Barbara area. One of the most important parts of our mission is to ensure that everyone has access to music — whether by playing or by listening. In addition to hosting concerts, the Bowl supports important performing arts programs for youth through our Outreach programs.
Outreach includes a broad array of programs, listed below, and annual grant cycles to local programs (latest group of recipients) that provide critical resources for expanding youth access to performing arts, including symposiums, arts advocacy, mentorship, and needs-based financial support for arts education programs.
We offer a range of opportunities for donors to support Outreach including investing in community programs and partnerships, investing in the Outreach Sustainer Fund to insure the longevity of this impactful program, or investing in the Bowl's future audiences and artists through the Community Ticket Subsidy and Instrument Fund.
Santa Barbara Bowl Instrument Fund ensures that lack of an instrument doesn’t prevent a child from learning to play music. The Instrument Fund came about in direct response to the recurring needs of local schools and arts education programs. The Fund lends, repairs and replaces instruments for Santa Barbara County youth music programs. The Bowl is collaborating with Jensen Music Foundation who will play a key role coordinating instrument collection and repair.

Increasing accessibility to performing arts is a core component of
the Bowl’s Mission, which is why we created, funded, and launched the
Community Ticket Subsidy program. Tickets to world-class Bowl
performances are subsidized for deserving Santa Barbara community
members, including foster families, high school-aged performers, and
participants in Bowl-supported Outreach programs.
The Bowl Foundation strongly believes in inspiring the next generation of artists as well as audiences and has committed to consistently hosting large-scale, cultural performance events on the Bowl stage. Our last event in 2015, featured Chicana, Son Jarocho-inspired band Las Cafeteras for 5,100 elementary school students. The benefits of this type of event extend far beyond the performance - they educate students on how to be a part of an audience; provide a cultural experience at an historic, community landmark; and create an opportunity to begin to imagine careers in the arts.
This one-of-a-kind, interactive musical experience encourages people of all ages and skill levels to sit down and play or listen along. For ten days each year, pianos are available up and down State Street for musical exploration, impromptu play, and group performances. Local professional artists transform each piano into a unique piece of art.
In partnership with the Santa Barbara County Arts Commission, the Bowl Arts Subsidy Fund was established in 2011 to increase access to the arts for rural and underserved communities countywide.
Advocacy is a community effort. The Santa Barbara Bowl Foundation seeks to empower local individuals and organizations with the information and know-how they need to become active proponents of performing arts education. Through public support, we can work to make arts and arts education a priority in our schools.
