At the Jack Johnson concerts this July, fans will receive free reusable stainless steel pints to help eliminate single-use plastic waste at the Santa Barbara Bowl.
Santa Barbara, CA – April 19, 2017 – Santa Barbara Bowl is once again combining efforts with Santa Barbara’s favorite local musician, Jack Johnson, to take venue greening to the next level by eliminating single-use plastic waste from the concert experience.
Johnson and his band will hit the road this summer for a North American tour kicking off June 1st at the Huntington Bank Pavilion at Northerly Island in Chicago, with two stops in Santa Barbara, July 17 and 18. Johnson and his touring crew, with the help of REVERB, are at the forefront of the green touring movement, engaging fans and working with venues to adopt lasting sustainability practices.
Every concertgoer at the Santa Barbara Jack Johnson shows will receive a free Steelys reusable pint to use for all beverage purchases or at water-refill stations while at all Bowl concerts. Fans will also receive a discount on all beverage refill purchases for the life of the cup.
The campaign is an expansion of the Bowl’s Reusable Pint Program launched in 2014 in coordination with LoaTree and Johnson’s From Here To Now To You Tour showing an unprecedented dedication to removing single-use plastic from concert venues — a mission that Jack Johnson has been dedicated to for over a decade. Johnson awarded the Santa Barbara Bowl the All At Once Sustainability Award in 2014 for being one of the greenest venues on his North American Tour and donated a water refill station in 2015 that has been used at every Bowl event since. In 2016, the Bowl switched to compostable alternatives and audits its waste annually to identify areas of improvement. At Johnson’s shows this summer the Bowl will eliminate single-use plastics completely in favor of promoting reusable options.
At both Jack Johnson shows fans will get a sneak peek at tracks from Johnson’s soon-to-be-released album, including “Fragments,” from The Smog of the Sea, a documentary offering a new perspective on plastic ocean pollution, and a call for viewers to rethink their use of single-use plastics.
The tour’s stop in Santa Barbara will also host the All At Once Village Green, featuring local environmental non-profits and fan engagement in support sustainable local food systems and plastic free initiatives. Fans can visit these partners in the Village Green, participate in greening actions, and enter to win a chance to watch Jack’s set from the Best Seats in the House….the stage!
