The duo Daryl Hall and John Oates met 50 years ago while they were escaping a gang fight and ever since then their love for music and brotherly friendship never diminished. In a recent Guardian article, Hall and Oates share what makes their relationship so special.
Guitarist John Oates says they played music around Philadelphia in art galleries and coffee shops, then played their first show out of the country in London in 1975. Lead vocalist Daryl Hall calls their relationship “very familial” and although they wrote more music together when they were young, now they generally work separately. However, Daryl also states, “what’s important is what we share, – and that’s music”. According to Daryl, “The region that we both come from is what makes our music unique”. Their music is influenced by John’s connection to country and bluegrass and Daryl’s background of gospel, church music and R&B. Check out the full article on their 50 years of friendship here.
