The funkheads were out in force on Saturday night at the Santa Barbara Bowl. Com Truise opened the show, ushering in the crowd with his mellow synthwave and setting the mood for a perfectly ethereal trip of a show. The energy rose with the setting sun and peaked as an orange-grey sunset came to rest over the Channel Islands.
Glitch Mob hit the stage next and delivered the face-melting beats and bass that the early vibers were aching for. What Glitch Mob lacked in funk was made up for tenfold by their quick-tapping fingers and rhythmic, tribal drumming on their matte black, Mad Max-esque equipment.
Chromeo came out as expected — one as the rockstar, the other as the trippy hippy — turning the residual EDM reverberating through the crowd into a lighthearted funk fest. The electro-pop duo played a killer set behind their signature pink-legged keyboards and kept the crowd standing from their first note to their last.
It was clear that the majority of the audience was there for the funky vibes of Chromeo, but Com Truise and Glitch Mob undoubtedly grew their tri-county followings with top-notch performances.
