The SBBowl is elated to announce Elesa Carlson as the 2024 Santa Barbara Performing Arts Teacher of the Year!

The Santa Barbara Bowl Performing Arts Teacher of the Year Award, granted in partnership with the Santa Barbara County Education Office (SBCEO) Teachers Network, is an annual recognition of an exemplary performing arts teacher.

This incredible honor could not be more deserved. Carlson teaches at Righetti High School in the Santa Maria Joint Union High School District, where she is the Art & Drama Program Director and teaches theater classes.

Principal Ted Lyon who nominated Carlson said, “Elesa inspires creativity in students as artists and actors. She makes sure that students with disabilities, English learners, and those that struggle with a variety of other pressures at school or home have a place in the classroom. She is one of the most talented and humble educators I have encountered in my 31-year career in education.’’

Dedicated to uplifting teachers like Elesa, the Bowl’s Outreach program invests in performing arts educators throughout Santa Barbara County,” said Tyler Duncan, Santa Barbara Bowl Outreach Chair. “The Board of Directors, Outreach committee, and staff congratulate Elesa on this award and an amazing lifelong impact on so many of her students.”

Through the Outreach initiatives, the Bowl provides instrument funding, grants opportunities, subsidized tickets and sponsorships so K-12 students in Santa Barbara County receive performing arts education and experiences.
