The Nebula Dance Lab will host two matinees as part of the Nebula Kids Matinee Program, November 2 & 3, 2016. The performances offer 1200 public school students in Kindergarten through Fifth grades a chance to experience a professional dance performance – many for the first time – at Santa Barbara’s historic Lobero Theatre.

“Performance art programming such as Nebula’s dances have a tangible and measurable impact on the lives of our youth,” said Kai Tepper, Education Outreach Program Manager for the Santa Barbara Bowl Foundation, a sponsor of the Nebula Kids Matinee Program in partnership with the Lobero Fund, Santa Barbara Community Arts Grant, AMP, and Strategic Incentives.

The dance troupe will perform The Inquisitor, a modern dance spin centered around the journey of a young girl, who seeks answers to the questions of life, a universal message around the power of being present and valuing the here and now. Told through Nebula's choreographic lens this piece weaves the audience through a storyline filled with rich characters, original multi-media scenery, and a musical score by Adam Phillips played live by Mission Creek Trio will transport you into the characters’ world.

“Approximately 60% of the students will be seeing a dance performance in a professional setting of the first time and for 60–70% of students it will be their first time in a theater setting,” added Tepper. The Bowl’s support helps to bring this program to life and provides students with a vital experience as it relates to performing arts.

Nebula encourages appreciation for dance arts and persons to enter the dance profession by providing workshops and outreach to the community. The Lab's mission includes enriching the dance community by providing a professional forum for choreographers to produce new and existing works. It also strengthens the dance arts by supporting emerging choreographers and by promoting dance performance and entertainment to the general-public.
