The Milpas neighborhood has come a long way and sometimes gets a bad wrap from us locals here in Santa Barbara, but in recent years they have turned things around. For example, the Milpas Community Association has helped homeless people find housing and the Taste of Milpas event helped rebrand Milpas Street as Santa Barbara’s “Eat Street”. Milpas has been recognized by Neighborhood USA as the Neighborhood of the Year 2014 in the social revitalization and neighborly category. It is a culturally and politically diverse community that runs from the beach to the Santa Barbara Bowl and continues to work together as a caring community.
