This year’s Super Bowl XLIX was the most-watched show in U.S. history, not only for the football, but also for the famously clever advertisements that accompany the game. The McDonald’s Super Bowl commercial this year promoted its “love” by offering free food to randomly selected customers in exchange for performing loving acts such as hugging or calling relatives. They called it a new form a payment: Lovin’.

Comedian Jim Gaffigan found humor in the video, and so he got on Twitter and posted: “As long as McDonald’s doesn’t make us pay with exercise.” McDonalds saw the post, and then challenged Gaffigan on Twitter by replying: “@JimGaffigan Here’s the deal: if you pay with Lovin’ by doing 5 jumping jacks, everyone at your next US show gets McDonald’s.”

Gaffigan skeptically took on the challenge and, while cracking many jokes, did 5 jumping jacks at his show on Saturday, February 21. McDonald’s followed through with their promise and gave every audience member free bags of fries, Sausage McGriddles, and Cheeseburgers. Not a bad trade off for 5 jumping jacks.

Come out to the SB Bowl on Friday, July 24 to see Jim Gaffigan. Who knows what kinds of exciting things could happen.
