Chromeo’s Album White Women was Created for Controversy

Chromeo takes a collaborative approach on their fourth album White Women, inspired in part by Kanye West’s ( My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and his incorporation of many artists in his album. Chromeo works with artists such as Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend (http://www.vampireweekend.com/), Pat Mahoney of LCD Soundsystem , and Tawaha Agee of Mtume (), to create an album they describe as the “total package.” But the album is meant to do more than just be listened to and enjoyed, it is meant to create controversy and thus conversations through song and lyrics.

The duo that forms Chromeo, Dave Macklovitch and Patrick Gemayel, say that they wanted to make an album that would create conversations that challenge the “super conservative climate” they have been recently feeling in America. After seeing how Robin Thicke’s song “Blurred Lines” stirred discussions about sexism, Chromeo wanted to create music that would encourage similar debates to occur.

Get tickets here to see Chromeo at the Santa Barbara Bowl on May 30th and hear how music can encourage important debates.
