Legendary Mexican-American band Los Tigres del Norte also know as The Tigers of the North have been entertaining audiences with their modern take on norteño music since forming in San Jose, California in the late ‘60s. Known for their corridos, a regional style of narrative ballad, Los Tigres found international fame in 1974 with "Contrabando y Traición," a tale of two drug runners that led to a series of films based on the song. Fans and critics praise Los Tigres for their masterful live performances during which they infuse traditional corridos with cumbia, bolero, and rock rhythms, and for their creative use of sound effects, including machine guns and sirens. In 2011, the band released MTV Unplugged: Los Tigres del Norte and Friends, which topped the Mexican Albums Chart and earned the band a Latin Grammy Award for Best Norteño Album. Since then, Los Tigres have been delighting fans with tales of love, betrayal, and survival, making tickets to their live concerts an essential for any fan of corridos and Latin American music in general.
